My Purpose is to make things happen! Abraham Ruth.

There are people you met in life and they left you transformed. They radiate inspiration, passion and focus. Their presence provokes the hidden passion in you and liberate you of your self-limiting beliefs. These kinds of people are rare, but when you find them, there is no mistake of their extra-ordinary personality. One of such rare personalities is Abraham Ruth the Author of these amazing books ,”Rewarding Power of Focus” and “Unveiling the Simple.” And her latest book, “Stronger Together.”

Abraham Ruth has a passion that is embedded in a deep purpose and this she has been passionately pursuing since her graduation from the University of Ibadan where she bagged Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. Today, she runs an international organization, Soaring Eagle Generation Development Initiative, a human development organization with the mission of helping people see the limitless potential in them.

The last time Ruth was with me, listening to her sharing amazing ideas, made me to quickly conclude that I will like her to share her passion with the teeming readers of my blog. In this interview, Ruth Abraham shares on life, vision, purpose and passion. It’s worth your time. Enjoy!

Can we Meet you?

My name is Ruth Omolola Abraham. Number four of five siblings. I love God, I sing, speak, write, and believe in development. I’m the convener of Soaring Eagle Generation Development Initiative, shortly identified as SEG. SEG is a human development platform registered with CAC.

How did your journey to self-discovery start?

It all started as a result of the situations that surrounded me as a growing child. Typically, I have a nudge to rise to the occasion, I usually would want to make an impact any where I find myself but I didn’t understand it fully until I got to the university and my reason for living started making sense to me. The completion of my first published book, The Rewarding Power of Focus did afford me the platform to give expression to my purpose and my journey to self discovery found the light of expression afterwards.

How will you summarize your purpose in life?

My purpose in life in a nutshell is to make things happen. Provide solutions where things aren’t working right, and more importantly help others find the reason why they’re still breathing.

You have written two wonderful books, what inspired you to write those books?

First I found that for life to make sense one must never downplay the role of being focused. Anyone who wants to be a winner must understand that wisdom is a principal thing hence the reason for my second book.

Can you tell us about your books?

The Rewarding Power of Focus, my first published book taught me a lot about being focused. To be sincere it ministered to me first before any other person. I found that people mess up in life as a result of having too many things fighting for their attention. The book looked at a good number of examples of those who got to their destination as a result of staying focused.

Some others couldn’t get there because they allowed the deceit of life to sway them. Still on my first book, I looked at biblical examples, contemporary examples, I looked at Leaders in the political sphere, academia (for instance I discussed a woman like Prof Matthai Wangari, the first woman to bag a PhD in East Africa), and even in Business. It’s such a robust resource and I thank God for helping me to get the book published.

My second published book is titled Unraveling The Simple. I describe it as a book cum novel. I never knew I could write stories so fascinating until the writing of the book. It took me close to 5 years to write the book. The book looks at parenting, young individuals, contentment, the fragility of the state of the human mind, the good that can be obtained from Nigeria ( the cover page sends a signal of our positive confession of the hope we have that Nigeria will become Honorable again), and it also gives some biblical expositions on the simple.

Every visionary will sometimes face discouragements, how have you been able to handle those “Down Times”?

There is no way one will pass through the surface of the earth without encountering some kind of challenges. In the midst of the not-particularly-encouraging moments I remind myself that the one who put the zeal will always make a way. I must confess it could be hard to hang on at times but no other option could be better. Therefore during hard moments I go back to the master strategist to help me and show me how to get to the destination He promised through His infallible word.

What are you working on at the moment?

Quite a lot. Everything I’m planning to come up with are all tools for human development and promoting the kingdom of the One who saved me by Grace. I have books coming up, songs, and conferences and interviews that can enrich lives and make as many that can be possibly reached to also find their voice.

If you have 1 minute to address the world, what will you say?

We may look the same but we all are uniquely different. Never use anyone’s timeline to gauge your achievements. Our appointed time are not the same. Identify all your efforts as seed that will yield great fruit. If you’re sure you’re walking in your PURPOSE, despise the upheavals and naysayers. Keep on working it out till your maker allows your relevance to be desired in places that matter. The world won’t find healing until the contribution of your PURPOSE finds Expression.

Who are your mentors and what have you learnt from them?

Wow! My mentors? I have a number of them. A good number of them are mentors from a distance while the others are a few people who believe in me even when there isn’t anything particularly comely about me. I have learnt some lessons about life and how to treat people when I find myself in a lofty perch.

What will you tell young people who want to follow your path?

Faith in God and believe in yourself is key. Never expect everyone to be excited about your lofty ambitions. Never hope everyone would be keen to help you. Our help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth therefore, seek Him first with all your heart. Get your relationship right with your maker. After you get these steps, go out there, find your voice, and give wings to your dream to soar so high… nothing can stop you… believe me.

You run an organization, “Soaring Eagle Generation”, will you tell us about your mission?

SEG is a human development platform, we have a message of hope for people from all walks of life, and our core audience are the youths. Her mission is to raise a generation of high flying individuals guided by the humaneness of selfless values.

What are the few things your organization has been able to accomplish?

Since the inception of SEG in 2014 we have organized leadership summit at tertiary and ecclesiastical institutions. We have done some CSR services for vulnerable individuals and IDPs in some homes. We hope to do quite a lot as God enables us. We also coordinate a youth forum identified as Exploring the Joshua Generation. It usually a robust endeavor that helps to reignite the fire of fulfilling purpose in a number of youths in attendance. We also promote literacy and reading culture and we have our publication arm where we write articles and produce books and magazines.

Where do you see yourself in the nearest future?

I see me in a place of authority to fulfill my calling. I see me amongst the ones making world development decisions. I see me as a light and salt in their midst, bringing in kingdom influence and affluence to find expression. I see me drawing many out of the backwaters of apathy and mediocrity and pulling them into their divine mandate.

What will you tell my regular readers?

Believe that your creator knows you can make a difference on the earth and be determined to act only His script. As God enables you always be ready to help. Support a good cause. Encourage your friends to search for this blog. Keep reading. Never stop working towards becoming a city set on a hill that can never be hid. Love God and love yourself. Thank you very much.

Funmi Omisope, An Agent of ChanGE

In life, there are three categories of people: those who look at what’s happening, those who wonder at what’s happening and those who make things happen! Funmi Omis0pe, the brain behind Home and Street Kids Welfare Initiative, belong to the last category. Her vision is:

” To make life worth living for every child that has lost hope of ever becoming successful in life and have resolved to a life of begging on the streets.” This she has passionately pursued for about a decade now. We have excited to have her as our GUEST OF THE MONTH. In this interview, Funmi shared about vision, passion, motivation and her first book “THE CHANGE AGENT.” Enjoy!

Can we meet you?

My name is Funmi Omisope, the Executive Director of Home and Street kids Welfare Initiative (HSKi) I have my first degree in Guidance and counselling from University of Ibadan , Advance Leadership Certificate Course at Daystar Leadership Academy and currently running a Social Sector Management Program at Enterprise Development Center (Lagos Business School).I’m number 5 of 6 children, from Ile-Ife in Osun State, Nigeria.

Your Organization Home and Street kids Welfare Initiative (HSKi), what is the idea behind it?

I started HSKi back then in my year one in the University as Kings n Queens Circle. The vision was born out of the passion to give a better future to the streets kids after realizing that the parents of the kids were used to beg by their own parents, I decided to break this evil chain by getting the kids enrolled in school and their parents gainfully employed or into business.

Which brought about our mission statement which says to turn craving hands to creative minds through guidance and counselling, skill acquisition program, education and policy advocacy.

And ultimately, God told me to do it.

How has it been so far?

It’s being a great experience for me working with these kids for close to 12 years now. Our organization currently have a school with 25 used to be street kids and 24 more who had gone through our program. We currently have a girl in secondary school with two others writing the forth coming Common entrance examination.Most of our parents are now security guards and also into farming.

For the challenges, I will say permanent site. We have changed location three times within our close to three years staying kwara State. This is not too good for a growing organization.

Also, getting scholarships for the kids. It is our target to enrol minimum of 50 street kids in school every academic year.

Many people have great ideas like yours, but they couldn’t start due to fear and other considerations, how did you overcome yours?

I was able to overcome my fears because I was privileged to locate my mentor on time. His dream is bigger than mine and through his counsel and demonstration of grace in his assignment, I realized me too can achieve what God called me to do. Taking care of the Street kids and their parents.

What did you consider your greatest motivation?

My greatest motivation is the fact that I’m too sure God created me for this. I am His representative in solving this particular problem. And then the Holy Spirit.He keeps me in check every now and then.

You have just completed a wonderful book, The Change Agent. Tell us about it?

The Change Agent is my very first book. I like to call it the product of my experience.A friend once asked me “Funmi, we all have passion for our vision and still get distracted along the way. What is it that is keeping you going on your track for over a decade and you’re still waxing strong. Please don’t tell me it’s passion for we all have it but still miss it”.This and many of such comments brought about me writing this book. It’s not just about my vision but the secrets I’ve learnt over the years that is keeping me going.

What is the central idea of this book, and why will you encourage everybody to have a copy?

The central idea of this book is the knowledge of the different phases our vision will take before getting it to its destination. I realized that when the destination is in view, our passion for the journey rises and giving up will no more be an option.

I will like to encourage every one with a vision, either already running with it or about to start to get a copy of the book. The book will not only inspire you but will give you a step by step guide in taking your vision from just an idea to its glorious destination.

Who are your target audience?

My target audience is every human who will like to give expression to the greatness in them. We are all created to solve a problem, and until we find ourselves so doing, fulfilment remains a fantasy.

What will you advise people who have vision/ideas,but are too afraid to do something about it?

I will like to tell them what my mentor told me the first day we met “Until you learn how to walk out of your comfort zone and pursue your vision, your vision will only be a wish”

And lastly I will like to say there is nothing call comfort zone, it’s real name is limiting zone. Give expression to the greatness in you, you’re limitless.

Your final words.

It is my passionate belief that ‘Nigeria is not a Nation full of Problems but a Nation full of Projects’ and each project has a name tag on it. Until we locate the project we are created to execute fulfillment is not in view.
