The Positive Power of Believing In Yourself.

Felix Duyilemi

“If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.”

Thomas A. Edison.

What have they called you?

·Albert Einstein  was called a good for nothing boy.

·Les Brown was tagged mentally retarded.

·Walt Disney was judged to lack creativity

·Thomas Edison was called a dunce

·Winston Churchill was told he would never amount to anything.

·Billy Graham was told nobody would ever hear of his name.

However, these people succeeded against the predictions of the negative thinking experts. When nobody believed in them, they believed in themselves.

When Steve Harvey was in Junior School, his teacher asked them to write what they would like to become in the future, Steve wrote down that he would like to be on TV.

Instead of encouraging him, his teacher was furious and told him to write something “More realistic.”

Today, Steve Harvey is a premier Comedian, best-selling author and the host of the Steve Harvey Show. If that teacher is still alive today, he might as well bite his tongue each time he tunes his TV set and sees Steve Harvey Live!

He doesn’t matter what anybody have told you or written about you, the only person that can stop you is you. Don’t trade your future away based on the experiences of your past. The truth is nobody can really see your potential until you start using it.

I saw a friend recently – we both graduated from the same University- while talking, he mentioned that he has heard a lot about my books and that he’s been really inspired by my life. I thanked him.

“You see” he said, “While in School, I never really thought much about you- to me you are just like any other ordinary student- until I read one of your books and that changed my perception of you”

The truth is this guy had a wrong perception of me. He didn’t think much of me because he hasn’t seen all of me.

He has only interacted with the “ordinary” part of me so he thought I wasn’t beyond ordinary.

Maybe, your friends, family, or spouse haven’t thought much about you because they have only seen the ‘ordinary’ part of you, it’s time you showed them that there is more to you than what they have seen or known.

You have a great potential to achieve extra-ordinary things in life, if only you believe in yourself.

Take for instance your brain is made of billions and billions of intricate and complex network of neurons and synapses with unlimited capacity to accomplish amazing feat- if only you will put it to task.

Right now, you have an unlimited potential to become a best-selling Author, accomplished Musician, Consummate Entrepreneur, 6-figure public Speaker, Extra-ordinary clergyman, global scientist, international diplomat and so on.

You are simply un-limited. Believe it.

When you start believing in yourself a whole new world will open to you.

You will draw on your innate potentials that have been buried in the grave of your low self-esteem, insecurity, and fear.

People, resources, and situations will rise up to welcome your new personality. You will welcome challenges like a champion and deal with them with confidence inspired by the awareness of your unlimited potential.

Only you can limit how far you go in life.

Maybe it’s true you might have grown up with fragile or weak self-esteem based on your childhood experiences.

Maybe you have parents who talked you down or failed to nurture your self-esteem.

Your High School Teacher might have called you names because you failed a simple arithmetic. Or maybe you have certain disability that didn’t make you popular with girls or boys- all this could have negatively impacted your self-esteem.

However, as true as these facts may appear, nothing can damage you permanently if you don’t surrender to it.

There is this mistake many of us make and this is it: the belief that other people are better than us. We tend to have more confidence in others than we have in ourselves.

The truth is nobody is better than you. That doesn’t make you to become arrogant or cocky. You don’t need to be intimated by other people abilities. You have yours.

Maybe you can’t paint like Michelangelo, or write like Shakespeare but there is something that only you can do very well.

You are simply unique and original.

Nobody can do what you have been wired for better than you. That is why you need to have confidence in your own ability. You need to start believing in yourself.

I want you today to write boldly on a sheet of paper now: I BELIEVE IN MYSELF. I CAN DO IT. I HAVE ABILITY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD! SUCCESS IS IN MY DNA!

Let’s talk: Why do you think many people don’t believe in themselves? Please, leave your thought. Thank you.

5 ACTION STEPS TO TAKE IMMEDIATE CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE!
Change your life, take action

You can’t hire a personto do your push ups for you

                                                      Jim Rohn

Don’t watch your life go by before you. You have waited for situations to get better, for thegovernment to create more jobs, for your friends to help you and on themultitude of other factors-wait no more. Become a creator, not a reactor. Be athermostat not a thermometer, while the thermometer merely reads thetemperature of the surroundings, thermostat regulates it. You are created inthe image of God with an inbuilt capacity to make things happen.

Wake up. Step out tostand out. You are the one that will succeed no one will do that for you. Infact, until you are ready, God won’t do anything for you.

The Bible tells thestory of four lepers who took charge of their lives. They have waited , expectingthings to happen- all in vain. Their conditions were worse. They had neitherfood nor companion. But they had only one thing to their advantage, theirminds-they were capable to think. Nobody has lost it all who has not lost his mind.A change usually begins with a thought. They reason among themselves “why sitdown here until we die?” Why waiting until someone comes along to help us? Whysurrender our lives to fate? Why not give it a trial?

These lepers acted. They took charge of their destiny. They made it. They didn’t die.

Hereare 5 action steps you can take to immediately change your life (gleaned fromthe story of the four lepers above)

     1.   Think.

A change begins with a thought.  A man is not finished who can think. Just asingle idea can turn your life around. A single idea can turn a marriagearound. A single idea can turn a church around. A single idea can turn a company around. Sometimes the tiny link betweenpoverty and prosperity is just a thought, an idea,  a concept or an inspiration waiting to be wokenup from the deep recess of the mind. However, thinking is the hardest job forsome. When confronted with dire situations, many will rather worry, cry, complain, whine or murmur rather than find a quiet place to think.  We should not forget there is always a wayout in any situation if we will explore our mind. There are always optionswhich might not be obvious until we think.

2.  Make a decision.

They decided on what to do. Many thinkfor eternity without arriving at anything. Thinking should lead to a decision. They decided to act. They decided to change location. They made up their mindto try different thing. Anthony Robbins said; “I believe that it’s in yourmoments of decision that your destiny is shaped”. Intention without decision is a delusion.

  3.  Act on Your Decision.

They acted on it. They rose up. They followedup on their decision. I read a lateral puzzle sometimes ago, it says-five frogswere seating on a fence, four decided to jump, how many frogs were left on thefence? Of course the answer is five! Four decided to jump, but did they jump?Intention without expression leads to regrets. For instance, if I have only decided to write this book without actually sitting down to write it, you won’t be reading it now.  A lot of people are carrying about great ideas that they do nothing about. Many people are still waiting until the conditions will improve, until they have more money, until they retire from service until…until…until…they die!

  4. Start Now

They struck while the iron was hot. Theydidn’t go about consulting people if they should act or not. Ideas lose their intensity if they are not acted upon on time. They didn’t begin to debate, analyze or justify their fears. They put all considerations, fears, roadblock aside. They acted on their decision early. Nobody could guess what would have happened if they have waited until afternoon. They properly would have died in their situations. A true decision is one that you act upon, and the one thatyou act upon now.

     5. You won’t Die!

God showed up when they took steps offaith. Miracles happen when you are on motion. The lepers took risk, and they succeeded. If they had stayed in their condition they properly would have died.In risking death they found life.

Imagination is Power! Kerry Kirkwood

Kerry Kirkwood, along with his wife Diane, are the founding pastors of the Trinity Fellowship Church in Tyler. Texas which started in July of 1987.  Pastor Kerry carries a strong prophetic anointing and speaks into the lives of individuals, churches, and regions.  He is also a dynamic teacher and looked to by many as a pastor to pastors.

Pastor Kerry has authored three books, The Power of Blessing, The Power of Imagination, and the Secret Power of Covenant.  He has appeared numerous times on the Sid Roth show, Naturally Supernatural, and on radio.  As a man after God’s heart, he recognizes the absolute necessity of heartfelt and prophetic worship in the corporate setting and the life of the individual.

We are happy to have him as our Guest of the Month, in this interview, the International Best-selling Author of the Power of Blessing, shared with us on the Power of Imagination. Enjoy!

Can I meet you, Sir?

I am a Minister, Worshipper, Husband, Father and Grandfather.

What is imagination, Sir?

Imagination is not just a mental wondering it is using what God created you with. You were created with God’s Imagination. The ability to see things the way God views them. It’s important to understand that everything God created began on the inside. Everything God does from Genesis on starts with a seed. When God told us to be fruitful and multiply, He was actually telling us to be full of seed—Imagination.

How can one develop godly imagination?

You develop a Godly imagination by first spending time in the Word of God. Asking the Holy Spirit to show you like He did with Abraham as he looked up to count the stars. Eph.1:17 says that the eyes of our heart can be enlightened to see the hope of our calling. The word enlightened is translated as photo. So Paul is praying that your heart/spirit can take a picture inside yourself to see what is your expectation and hope.

How can the power of imagination help one to fulfill one’s destiny?

Many people are just one picture away from fulfilling a long-time-in-coming dream. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then we should stop talking about it and start looking to see what it will look like and move toward the blueprint. Start with what you know and the detail will follow. Some things are difficult to see because of their magnitude and the distractions that tell us is impossible. When we see from the inside out, and don’t measure the probability from the circumstances screaming at us from the outside, we are better able to succeed.

Why did you write the book “Power of Imagination?”

I wrote this book the to counter the new age thinking that imagination belonged to them. When it was God who created us with His imagination. The book was also intended to help us when we pray to get beyond natural circumstances and see by the Holy Spirit.

In your opinion, sir, why do you think many people don’t engage in Imagination?

Most people are taught that imagination is of the devil or not to trust their imagination. Truly, it can be used in an evil way. When the Word of God is at the center of our thoughts then we don’t have to be afraid of something God gave us to use to extend our faith.

Your last words, Sir.

Many visions die on the drawing board because there is a lack of faith to take it to the next level of reality. When a creative imagination is born inside us, it is up to us to give it substance by moving it from an internal thought to sharing it with others who can bring their expertise to the project.

If only we knew how much the Lord was cheering us on toward completion, it would motivate us to recognize that our good ideas are God’s inspired waiting to be born. Aborted seed is unrealized potential. Someone might not see this due to past failures. Well, this is a new day and old failures have passed away. If you are born again, you are a new species, a new model created for winning! What you hold, is what you behold and what you behold is what you become. The choice is yours.

Thank you Sir for your time.

You are welcome.

Author’s note: I have read Pastor Kerry’s latest book, ‘The Power of Imagination ‘ and I can’t recommend it enough. Please lay your hands on it. Pastor Kerry can be reached via [email protected] or see his website www.trinityfellowship.com

TEN TERRIFIC LESSONS I LEARNT FROM JUMOKE THE BREAD SELLER.

Jumoke Orisaguna the bread seller

Once in a while, we all need a break from the usual stories of suicide, bombing, kidnapping and other vices that seem to stream endlessly to us on social media. One of such phenomenon breaks is the story of a young woman who walked the streets of Lagos selling the popular Agege bread. The ex-bread seller, Jumoke Orisaguna, has suddenly moved from a nobody to international fame. Her story is a classic example of Rag-to-riches story or From Grass to Grace.

According to CNN “Jumoke Orisaguna is a mother of two who used to walk the streets of Lagos selling bread. Originally a hairstylist from Osun State, south west Nigeria, she was struggling to make ends meet, and left her husband and two children in their home town to become a street vendor in the economic capital. Working from 2:30pm to 11:00pm selling bread, Jumoke would make less than $20 each day –with a profit of around $1. Now she’s about to become a top model; signed to a modeling agency and gaining international fame and prominence.”

Responding to an interview, the erstwhile bread seller said, "I never expected this would ever happen to me.  My friends have told me they saw me on the TV and they are really happy. My parents cannot believe their own child can become such a success. They are all so happy."

From this inspiring story, I have personally learnt 10 terrific lessons I will be sharing with you:

1.The Reality of Divine Favour.

There is no way one can explain the meteoric rise of Jumoke to fame without recourse to supernatural or divine assistance. I listened to her speak on NTA, and it was obvious that Jumoke lacked basic education. She wasn’t able to express herself in common English. She had no connection with TY Bello who was instrumental to her success.  It’s even possible that Jumoke didn’t owe a Facebook account though her fame started from Facebook. To me, God chose to favour Jumoke. She was divinely assisted to be at the right place at the right time. The Bible is replete with examples of divine assistance. For instance, Joseph woke up one day as a prisoner but slept that same day  as Prime Minister, Saul was looking for his father’s lost donkey, he came back anointed as the first king of Israel, David went to the battled as errand boy he returned as national celebrity. That is the reality of divine favour.

2.Never Surrender The Possibilities of Your Future To The Realities of Your Present.

Today for Jumoke things have changed. She is no longer a bread seller, she’s now a superstar model. This was a dream she never had! From making $1 a day to international fame, Jumoke’s yesterday realities were no longer her realities today. She has experienced a complete metamorphosis. You don’t have to define yourself based on the current status of your bank account. You may be currently struggling to make ends meet that doesn’t indicate that things will continue to be that way. Your current realities no matter how worse they are, shouldn’t steal away your dreams and aspirations.

3.Never look down on anybody.

Everybody is important no matter their current realities. Poor people use your past to judge you, average people use your present to measure you, but exceptional people use your future to relate with you. How many Jumokes still walk our streets today selling bread? How should we relate with that young girl who sells tomatoes in our streets. Jumoke story should tell us that every failure is a potential success, every poor man is a potential rich man, and every sinner is a potential saint. Relate with people not based on their present or past realities but by the vision of what they can become.

4. Never Write Yourself Off

It’s not over until it’s over. Jumoke in her own words said, “I never expected this would ever happen to me.  My friends have told me they saw me on the TV and they are really happy. My parents cannot believe their own child can become such a success. They are all so happy” It can happen to you and I. From a bread seller without a University degree to international fame, things can indeed change drastically. You don’t have to write yourself off because you couldn’t get a job few years after graduating from the University. Don’t write yourself off just because you couldn’t pay your house rent. Don’t write yourself off Just because you couldn’t take care of your family. If today is hopeless, remember, God has made arrangement for tomorrow.

5. You Don’t Need To Figure Out How Things Will Work Out.

Jumoke didn’t have to pay for audition. She didn’t even have formal or informal relationship with TY Bello. She didn’t pay for the picture. She didn’t open a Facebook account herself an upload the pic. Things just worked out for her. Now she has been given a Scholarship for her Education and her two children have also been given scholarship for their Education to University. Many a time, we worry ourselves trying to figure out how things will work out, which is absolutely not necessary. Trust in God, let go and believe things will work out without you fretting.

6.Be Part of Someone’s Greatness.

Jumoke won’t be where she’s now without the presence of TY Bello. Her story can never be complete without mentioning the name TY Bello. The woman is a major part of her greatness. There cannot be greater fulfillment in life than to know that through you someone had become what he is today. In a world where everybody is thinking about himself, the story of Jumoke serves us to always think about others and what we can do to support and assist them. TY Bello will forever be happy that he produced a superstar model. Jumoke success story should be dedicated to her. Be part of someone’s greatness.

7.Do Something.

Miracles happen when we are on motion. Jumoke could have stayed at home fighting with her husband for his inability to take care of the family. She didn’t do that. She was willing to work. Though the profit was meager, she stayed with the work until fortunes smile on her. The Bible instructs us “Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might.” Go out of your house and find something to do. From there who knows whether you will be meeting a TY Bello!

8.Everybody has Something.

To Jumoke it’s  beauty. I am convinced that all of us have got something marketable to our world. We may not even realize it. Jumoke didn’t realize how beautiful she was until people start liking her picture on Facebook. You have got something beautiful in you even though you may currently not be aware of it. It could  be a smile, a book, a song, a concept, an idea, a design- something. You may not wait until someone finds you, find yourself and give the world a piece of your good news.

 9. The Power of Social Media.

Good or evil, social media is a force. You can no longer ignore the power of social media in projecting your brand to the world. The success of Jumoke could be attributed to the power of social media. That tells us the need to take advantage of these powerful tools to showcase our beauty to the world. If you have anything at all to promote now, get it on social media, you never can tell what happens next.

10. A change can occur in Split Second.

Change can take place within seconds. Jumoke moment of changed occurred at the flash of a camera. Yours maybe on your way to work tomorrow; It could be through a phone call. It could be you running into an old friend. Mine can come through someone reading this article now! Stay open. Be full of expectation, a change can occur in split second. Yours may be next!

Jumoke the bread seller now a superstar model!

Your story can have a happy ending!
