My Purpose is to make things happen! Abraham Ruth.

 

There are people you met in life and they left you transformed. They radiate inspiration, passion and focus. Their presence provokes the hidden passion in you and liberate you of your self-limiting beliefs. These kinds of people are rare, but when you find them, there is no mistake of their extra-ordinary personality. One of such rare personalities is Abraham Ruth the Author of these amazing books ,”Rewarding Power of Focus” and “Unveiling the Simple.” And her latest book, “Stronger Together.”

Abraham Ruth has a passion that is embedded in a deep purpose and this she has been passionately pursuing since her graduation from the University of Ibadan where she bagged Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. Today, she runs an international organization, Soaring Eagle Generation Development Initiative, a human development organization with the mission of helping people see the limitless potential in them.

The last time Ruth was with me, listening to her sharing amazing ideas, made me to quickly conclude that I will like  her to share her passion with the teeming readers of my blog. In this interview, Ruth Abraham shares on life, vision, purpose and passion. It’s worth your time. Enjoy!

 

Can we Meet you?


My name is Ruth Omolola Abraham. Number four of five siblings. I love God, I sing, speak, write, and believe in development. I’m the convener of Soaring Eagle Generation Development Initiative, shortly identified as SEG. SEG is a human development platform registered with CAC.

How did your journey to self-discovery start? 


It all started as a result of the situations that surrounded me as a growing child. Typically, I have a nudge to rise to the occasion, I usually would want to make an impact any where I find myself but I didn’t understand it fully until I got to the university and my reason for living started making sense to me. The completion of my first published book, The Rewarding Power of Focus did afford me the platform to give expression to my purpose and my journey to self discovery found the light of expression afterwards.

How will you summarize your purpose in life? 


My purpose in life in a nutshell is to make things happen. Provide solutions where things aren’t working right, and more importantly help others find the reason why they’re still breathing.

 

You have written two wonderful books, what inspired you to write those books?


First I found that for life to make sense one must never downplay the role of being focused. Anyone who wants to be a winner must understand that wisdom is a principal thing hence the reason for my second book.

 

Can you tell us about your books?

 

 

 

The Rewarding Power of Focus, my first published book taught me a lot about being focused. To be sincere it ministered to me first before any other person. I found that people mess up in life as a result of having too many things fighting for their attention. The book looked at a good number of examples of those who got to their destination as a result of staying focused.

 

Some others couldn’t get there because they allowed the deceit of life to sway them. Still on my first book, I looked at biblical examples, contemporary examples, I looked at Leaders in the political sphere, academia (for instance I discussed a woman like Prof Matthai Wangari, the first woman to bag a PhD in East Africa), and even in Business. It’s such a robust resource and I thank God for helping me to get the book published.

My second published book is titled Unraveling The Simple. I describe it as a book cum novel. I never knew I could write stories so fascinating until the writing of the book. It took me close to 5 years to write the book. The book looks at parenting, young individuals, contentment, the fragility of the state of the human mind, the good that can be obtained from Nigeria ( the cover page sends a signal of our positive confession of the hope we have that Nigeria will become Honorable again), and it also gives some biblical expositions on the simple.

 

Every visionary will sometimes face discouragements, how have you been able to handle  those “Down Times”?


There is no way one will pass through the surface of the earth without encountering some kind of challenges. In the midst of the not-particularly-encouraging moments I remind myself that the one who put the zeal will always make a way. I must confess it could be hard to hang on at times but no other option could be better. Therefore during hard moments I go back to the master strategist to help me and show me how to get to the destination He promised through His infallible word.

What are you working on at the moment?


Quite a lot. Everything I’m planning to come up with are all tools for human development and promoting the kingdom of the One who saved me by Grace. I have books coming up, songs, and conferences and interviews that can enrich lives and make as many that can be possibly reached to also find their voice.

If you have 1 minute to address the world, what will you say?

We may look the same but we all are uniquely different. Never use anyone’s timeline to gauge your achievements. Our appointed time are not  the same. Identify all your efforts as seed that will yield great fruit. If you’re sure you’re walking in your PURPOSE, despise the upheavals and naysayers. Keep on working it out till your maker allows your relevance to be desired in places that matter. The world won’t find healing until the contribution of your PURPOSE finds Expression.

Who are your mentors and what have you learnt from them?


Wow! My mentors? I have a number of them. A good number of them are mentors from a distance while the others are a few people who believe in me even when there isn’t anything particularly comely about me. I have learnt some lessons about life and how to treat people when I find myself in a lofty perch.

What will you tell young people who want to follow your path?


Faith in God and believe in yourself is key. Never expect everyone to be excited about your lofty ambitions. Never hope everyone would be keen to help you. Our help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth therefore, seek Him first with all your heart. Get your relationship right with your maker. After you get these steps, go out there, find your voice, and give wings to your dream to soar so high… nothing can stop you… believe me.

 

You run an organization, “Soaring Eagle Generation”, will you tell us about your mission?


SEG is a human development platform, we have a message of hope for people from all walks of life, and our core audience are the youths. Her mission is to raise a generation of high flying individuals guided by the humaneness of selfless values.

What are the few things your organization has been able to accomplish?

Since the inception of SEG in 2014 we have organized leadership summit at tertiary and ecclesiastical institutions. We have done some CSR services for vulnerable individuals and IDPs in some homes. We hope to do quite a lot as God enables us. We also coordinate a youth forum identified as Exploring the Joshua Generation. It usually a robust endeavor that helps to reignite the fire of fulfilling purpose in a number of youths in attendance. We also promote literacy and reading culture and we have our publication arm where we write articles and produce books and magazines.

Where do you see yourself in the nearest future?

I see me in a place of authority to fulfill my calling. I see me amongst the ones making world development decisions. I see me as a light and salt in their midst, bringing in kingdom influence and affluence to find expression. I see me drawing many out of the backwaters of apathy and mediocrity and pulling them into their divine mandate.

What will you tell my regular readers?

 Believe that your creator knows you can make a difference on the earth and be determined to act only His script. As God enables you always be ready to help. Support a good cause. Encourage your friends to search for this blog. Keep reading. Never stop working towards becoming a city set on a hill that can never be hid. Love God and love yourself. Thank you very much.

7 Life Lessons From The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Many people came into the world to participate in a myriad of events and then died without meaningful impacts traceable to their mundane existence. Some others came to create events that would forever etch in the annals of history. The latter continue to arouse the interest of the world years after they have gone. They become beckon of hopes and inspirations to the world they left behind.

 

 

Such was the life of the great history maker, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Born on January 15, 1929, to Rev’d Micheal King and his wife Alberta, Luther was born into the ugly shadow of segregation. Though the kings loved their handsome boy, they were sad that he had to be born into a society that would treat him as second class citizen.
   

King had an experience at 6 that forever made an impact for the rest of his life. Martin had gone to visit his friend after school, but the father of his friend wouldn’t allow King to see him. Exasperated, Luther asked, “Why Not?” The man responded grimly, “Because you’re black and he’s white” and slammed the door. Luther went home to relate the incidence to his Mum, who told him, “See, son, no matter what the rest of the world says, you’re as good as anyone else”

Luther, from then, would live with a vision, a dominating desire to stop segregation in the Continent of America. A vision was born in his heart, he began to study and at 14, Martin Luther King had become an intellectual Monster! Upon graduation at the top of his class at the University of Boston, Luther decided to go back home with his new found love, Coretta Scott with one purpose in mind: to fight for the freedom of himself and his people. Luther King never expected to be a leader. All he wanted was for black people like him to be treated fairly in America. But what began as a small protest soon became a revolution.

 

I have taken my time to learn from the life history of Dr Martin Luther King Jr., here are  the 7 Life Lessons gleaned from the life of this amazing legend

 

 

          

                 1. Intelligence has no colour.

Luther led his class at the Crozer Seminary, a mixed school for both black and white students. It was a great opportunity for  King to prove that a black student could achieve as much as anybody else. Black doesn’t spell D.a.r.k and intelligence has no respect for colour.

Today, we have seen similar examples from the life of Dr. Ben Carson, a black American who at the young age of 35 became the director of Pediatric neuro    surgery at the popular Johns Hopkins Hospital. The lesson here is evident, if you take the time to develop your intelligence, you can rise above any situation in life   ,  no matter the condition of your birth or the colour of your skin.

 

                             2. Live with A dream.

 

 

Though Dr Martin Luther delivered his famous speech ” I have a Dream” on August 28, 1963, in the presence of 250,000 protesters, he had lived with that dream since he was 6. Luther lived with a dream that he would one day see, “The sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners sit together at the table of brotherhood…that his four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.”

This was the vision that burnt in the heart of Luther day and night. This dream made him study harder than his colleagues and influenced his choice of vocation as a Clergyman. Today, America lives in the Light of his dream. His dream has become a reality. Dreamers have been the saviour of the world. If you have a dream in your heart and you allow it to become an obsession there is no telling what legacy your life can leave behind.

 

 

                 3. A Passionate Desire For A Change.

 

Luther wanted a change. He wanted it so badly. Many people had come before Luther who saw the problem and did nothing. However, King saw the problem, felt the pain and promised himself to do something about it even if it took the last breath in his nostril. In fact, Luther was willing to let go of his romantic relationship with Coretta if she wasn’t willing to follow him to Montgomery to fight for the dream of his heart. To Luther, “It’s either freedom or death.”

Change doesn’t occur on the platter of gold, it takes commitment, determination and a degree of stubbornness for things to change. 

 

 

             4. Small victory births bigger victories.

 

 

Nobody expected the small protest that began in the early hour of December 1st, 1955 when Rosa Parks had refused to vacate her seat for a white man in Montgomery to turn to a phenomenon that would spread across the country.

 Inspired by the Court order that segregation on buses was illegal, Luther took the protest to

Birmingham, a city known to be the heart of unfair treatment of the black. He fought, he was arrested and jailed. At the end, he won! Later, Luther took the struggle to Alabama and fought for the right of the black to vote and be voted for and also won. On August 28th, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed an act removing restrictions on black voting rights.

Here is the lesson: Major success is an accumulation of little successes. If you start you will generate the energy needed to continue. Movement creates momentum. Things will move, when you move. Every great thing started small. A change can begin with you where you are today.

 

 

           5. The Value of Great Companionship.

 

 

Dr. Luther surrounded himself with great friends. From his wife Coretta, who he said possessed “Character, intelligence, personality and beauty” to E.D Nixon one of his closest friends, King selected carefully friends who had the same values, passion and drive like himself. For instance, the idea to boycott  the buses in Montgomery was suggested by his friend, Nixon and throughout his life Luther would value and sought the counsel of his wife and of his great friends .

Your friends create your influence. Your association determines your assimilation. Your destiny can be marred or made by the choice of friends you made. Nobody succeeds in isolation. If you want to do great things, then look for great friends.

 

                6. Fight for your Freedom.

 

Freedom is worth the fight. Don’t put up with oppression, go for freedom at all cost. If you need today mental, financial, physical, emotional, psychological or marital freedom, stand up and fight. You can’t change what you are unwilling to confront. At the end, the prize of freedom far outweighs the comfort of slavery. Luther did exactly that. He fought for the freedom of the black. He knew they deserved

               7. Leave the World better than you Met it.

 

Luther was born into  the  world where he and his people were considered second class citizens. They were forced to drink from separate fountains, attend separate schools, banned from restaurants, made to stand up on buses and even had to step into the gutter when white people passed them on the street. But Martin changed it! When he left the world on April 4, 1968,black people could eat where they wished, sit where they wished and walked where they wished. Few years ago, a black American became the President of the United States of America!
Luther’s dream has been fulfilled! The world is glad Luther came. In 1983, US Congress established the third Monday of every January as ‘Martin Luther King Day’, confirming him as one of America’s greatest  leaders ever.

One day, your life on earth will be over, what legacy will you leave  behind? Hope you answer that question.

You Can Have Anything You Want In Life Just the Way You Want It.

 

You don’t  have to choose between success and peace of mind, you can have both! You don’t have to choose between purity and prosperity, you can have both. You can have anything you want in life just the way you want it. You don’t have to abandon your dreams or goals,you can enjoy life optimally while blessing others and advancing the Kingdom of God.

Right now you are surrounded with the plenty of the universe. There is no scarcity in creation. Economics teaches us that human want is insatiable. How correct is that? It went further to say "Demand is always higher than supply" What does that embed into our consciousness? Scarcity! That is the reason  parents thinking they are being honest will caution their children to limit their vision and dream "You see son, in life, you can’t have everything you want" What a poor piece of advice!


The truth is you can have anything in life, exactly the way you want it. You can get the colour, the size, the model, the quality just the way you want it. You don’t have to settle for less. You don’t have to settle for second best. You can go for gold!

1. Have A DReam.

Your dream according to James Allen "Is the promise of what you shall one day become; your ideal is the prophesy of what you shall at last unveil." Dream big dreams, don’t limit yourself to what is AVAILABLE, focus on what is POSSIBLE. Remember "Be careful of what you want because you will get it!" noted Emerson.


2. Surround Yourself With Big Mind.

Your association determines your assimilation. What you see creates your feelings. Positive feelings draw positive circumstances. Your friends create your influence. You will gravitate towards  what you pay attention to. So look for people who seem to be lucky in life and court their friendship, observe their thoughts\ pattern and mirror their behaviour.


3. Think Big.

Your thoughts create your reality. "As a man thinketh so is he" observe the greatest King ever lived. To get what you want in life exactly the way you want it you must remove limited thinking from your mind. You must open your mind to the abundance of the universe around you. If you can see it clearly in your mind, you can handle it firmly with your hand.


4. Create Services That Bless Others

"You can get anything in life, if you just help other people to get what they want" said the motivational King Zig Ziglar. By helping other people solve their problems you will end up living the life you want not the one you dread. Find needs and meet them and you will meet your needs.


5. Focus on Your Passion

You don’t have to abandon your passion for the lifestyle you want. The truth is, your passion will create your lifestyle! If your passion is writing, then write. If it’s singing, sing. Whatever your passion is, that is where your blessing is.
